West Windsor Township Recreational Facilities and Pavilion Rentals

Lewis B. Chamberlin Park  -  (See Map)

Neighborhood Park with playground equipment. Located on Slayback Drive and Park Hill Terrace off of South Mill Road in the Princeton Ivy East Development.

Ron Rogers Arboretum  -  (See Map)

The Ronald R. Rogers Arboretum was dedicated in honor of the late Ronald R. Rogers who is remembered as West Windsor’s Forester, an honor that reflects the tremendous time and effort he volunteered to promote and implement community forestry in the Township. The purpose of the arboretum is to present the wondrous strength, beauty and benefit of many species of Quercus or oak trees as well as ecologically related tree species that grow in West Windsor and its environs. The site of the arboretum is a 25-acre parcel of land that consists of approximately 12 acres of open field and 13 acres of mature woodland.

The arboretum is also the site of the September 11 memorial. The memorial is intended to honor the memory of those who left their homes that day to participate in the daily tasks of our free society and never returned. The memorial, which consists of reflecting pools, is constructed of the essential elements of life—water, air and organics—and is designed as a space for contemplation of the emotions that are brought to the surface by the events of September 11.

Van Nest Park  -  (See Map)

Features of this park include a picnic pavilion with grills and picnic tables, new playground equipment, dock and boat launch and open space for sports and games. Located on Cranbury Road adjacent to Grover’s Mill Pond. Portable bathroom facilities are available at this site.
    Picnic Pavilion Rental
    Families and other groups may reserve Van Nest Park for picnics and other functions. Park facilities include a pavilion, tables and grills, new permanent bathrooms, playground and an open space for games. The parking lot is paved and the park is accessible. The park is located on Cranbury Road adjacent to Grover’s Mill Pond. Applications are available at the Recreation Office. Groups of twenty or more may rent the facility for a 4 hour block of time for $150.00 (residents) and $300.00 (for non–residents). There is also a $75.00 refundable damage deposit.

West Windsor Community Park  -  (See Map)

This 123-acre park currently includes a playground, walking-jogging paths, two tennis courts and is home to the West Windsor WaterWorks Family Aquatic Center. The park also has baseball, Babe Ruth and soccer fields utilized by the various Township sports organizations. New additions to the park include basketball courts, skate park and dog park.
    Picnic Pavilion Rental
    Families and other groups may reserve the picnic pavilion at the Community Park for picnics and other functions. The pavilion can accommodate groups of up to 100 guests. Restrooms are available. Groups may bring their own grills. Applications are available at the Recreation Office. The rental fee to use this facility for a 4 hour block of time is $150.00 for residents and $300.00 for non–West Windsor residents. There is also a $75.00 refundable damage deposit.

Conover Road Athletic Complex  -  (See Map)

This site includes various sports fields including a football field, three soccer fields and six baseball fields. These fields are maintained by the Township and are utilized by the various Township sports organizations. West Windsor leases this land from the Mercer County Park Commission.

Zaitz Park  -  (See Map)

Located on Southfield Road opposite the Cranbury Golf Club. In 1991, approximately two acres and the c1790 Schenck Farmhouse were given to the West Windsor Historical Society by Max Zaitz. The c1780 Barn and the c1890 Parsonage School on this site are now being restored. All of these buildings will serve as a permanent exhibit to West Windsor history. The following year, 1992, Mr. Zaitz donated 117 additional acres of land to West Windsor to be used as a park. Four recreational soccer fields are utilized by the West Windsor-Plainsboro Soccer Association for games and practices at this site. In 2005 the parking lot was expanded and an additional soccer field opened for play.

Hendrickson Drive Tennis Complex  -  (See Map)

Located on Hendrickson Drive, adjacent to Route 571, this complex has five lighted tennis courts, a playground, a practice wall and is the location of the West Windsor Tennis Program.

Rogers Preserve/Millstone River Preserve  -  (See Map)

The Rogers Preserve, located along the Big Bear Brook across Clarksville Road from Grovers Mill Pond. The Preserve has two walking/hiking trails. The trails traverse through varied habitat - an old tree nursery; upland oak forest; and wetlands/floodplain along Big Bear Brook. In the center of the old tree nursery is an open area suited for picnicking or birding. The Millstone River Preserve, located on the south side of Millstone Road at the Plainsboro border. The Preserve has several walking/hiking trails. The trails traverse through varied habitat - upland oak forest; wetlands/floodplain along Millstone River; and 30’-40’ high bluffs overlooking the River suited for picnicking or birding. The river can be accessed for canoes or kayaks near the Millstone Road bridge.

Mercer County Park  -  (See Map)

Mercer County Park is located on Old Trenton Road in West Windsor. The park is under the jurisdiction of the Mercer County Park Commission. The 2,500 acres includes softball, soccer and baseball fields, tennis courts, ice skating rink, a lake and marina, basketball courts, bicycling and jogging paths, and picnic pavilions.
